Applied Data Analysis in Business with R is a course that provides students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to analyze and interpret data for business decision making. This hands-on course focuses on the application of statistical techniques and data manipulation using the R program. Students will learn how to explore, visualize, and analyze data sets using the R program to gain valuable insights and make data-driven decisions.

The course will provide students with the following skills:

  • Understand the basic concepts of data analysis and its role in business decision making.
  • Learn to use the program R for data manipulation, exploration, visualization, and analysis.
  • Acquire skills in applying statistical techniques to analyze and interpret data in a business context.
  • Interpret and communicate the results of data analysis to support business decisions.
  • Explore real-world cases to reinforce learning and practical applications of data analysis.
Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

Students will:

  • Understand the basic concepts of data analysis and its role in business decision making.
  • Be familiar with the statistical program R for data manipulation, exploration, visualization, and analysis in a business context.
  • Apply statistical techniques to analyze and interpret data in a business context.
  • Develop a solid foundation of data analysis for further study.

In analyzing business phenomena, students will be able to formulate research hypotheses, apply appropriate methods of data analysis using the statistical program R, and interpret research findings.

Lehr-/Lerndesign:
  • Lectures
    - Lectures will provide theoretical background, explain fundamental concepts, and introduce the main principles and techniques of data analysis using the R program.
  • Hands-on R sessions
    - Students actively work on hands-on exercises with the R program. These sessions provide students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and deepen their knowledge.
  • Interactive discussions
  • Homework assignments
Leistung(en) für eine Beurteilung:
  • 3 individual homework assignments: 3 times 10 points (max 30 points).
Application of learned concepts to own data sets using the program R and interpretation of results. Students must submit homework on the following three topics:
    - Descriptive statistics.
    - Hypothesis testing.
    - Regression analysis.

  • Practical exam using the program R (max 20 points).
Students will demonstrate their practical knowledge of using the R program. Only the topics covered in the course will be examined.
  • Final written exam (max 50 points)
Students should be able to read and correctly interpret the results of data analysis using the R program.
