Inhalte der LV:

The focus of this class lies on exploring which insights different research and analysis methods can provide when used to investigate the – superficially – same problem. Organizing social and economic interactions and transactions on digital platforms and in digital ecosystems has consequences on technical, economic, ecological, social and personal levels. We will use different theories and research methods from strategy and management literature, microeconomics and behavioural economics, and information systems research to deconstruct multidimensional challenges digital ecosystems face, to experience how different disciplines address facets of these challenges, and to attempt to re-combine domain-specific solutions to single facets into an answer to the multidimensional challenge. Depending on student interest, data-driven approaches complement the theoretical perspective.

Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

Students will be familiar with and able to reflect critically:

  • Legitimacy of digital ecosystems
  • Complementarities in and between ecosystems
  • Resource orchestration in digital ecosystems
  • Data-driven approaches for analysing and optimizing data streams (e.g., transactions, sensor data, user/customer behaviour) to create value for the ecosystem
Regelung zur Anwesenheit:

The rules on the attendance of a Continuous Assessment Course (PI) apply. See the dedicated page on the WU portal for further information. Quote from that page: " Pursuant to the general guidelines issued by the Vice-Rector for Academic Programs and Student Affairs, the attendance requirement is met if a student is present at least 80% of the time."

Lehr-/Lerndesign:

Course topics are introduced in short interactive lectures. Discussion sessions serve to assist the students in applying their knowledge to concrete problems and building the ability to evaluate critically current developments in the field of digital ecosystems in practice and in academia.

Students will choose an individual or group project, present their results over the course of the lecture, and write an academic paper. In order to school their critical analysis skills, they will 1) review selected literature on digital ecosystems, 2) provide peer feedback to at least one other peer or peer group, and 3) submit an individual report containing their reflections on their project work.
