Inhalte der LV:

The course provides an Introduction to Operations Management (OM) with a focus on manufacturing industries but also including examples from service industries. The basics of Process- and Inventory Management as well as Supply Chain Planning are introduced.  The following topics are covered.

  • Operations Management and Process Analysis
  • Capacity Management
  • Inventory Management
    • EOQ model
    • Newsvendor model
    • Multi-period inventory control

 

The content will be mainly discussed based on the selected chapters from "Cachon , G. and Terwiesch , C. (2020) Operations Management. McGrawHill , 2nd edition".

Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

After successful completion of this class, students will be able to

    • understand basic principles of process and capacity management,
    • analyze basic inventory control  problems and apply appropriate control policies,
    Regelung zur Anwesenheit:

    Attendance of at least 80% of the classes is necessary to fulfill the requirements; no more than one session may be missed.

    Note that if a student does not attend the first session of a PI course without giving prior notice of his/her absence, he/she will be unsubscribed from the course.

    Lehr-/Lerndesign:

    Lectures, case examples, homework and in-class assignments

    Leistung(en) für eine Beurteilung:

    The final mark is composed of:

      • Homework assignment (group work), 25%
      • In-class assignment (individual) 15%
      • Exam (individual) 60%


      We require that at least 50% are reached from each of the individual parts (in-class assignments and exam), and at least 60% is reached in total.
