Inhalte der LV:

This global internship course complements a supervised international work experience. The first sessions will prepare students for their professional tasks in Austria and shall support a good start into their working experience. Consequently, students will reflect upon their experience by completing required course assignments and guided reflections. Through theoretical input in the fields of intercultural communication, professional behavior, and business culture, students will be able to build their global work experience into their career narratives. At the end of the course, they will be able to successfully present their professional and personal growth in written and oral form (job-interview simulation).

Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

Students will

  • establish strategies to deal with new challenges (intercultural experiences, job market).
  • develop competence and self-confidence to present and assert themselves within the EU and international job market.
  • gain knowledge and learn to reflect about different work models and social systems (working in a social democracy, work-life balance).
  • get familiar with the Austrian business culture, etiquette and the very basics of German for the workplace.
  • develop the skills for intercultural communication.
  • be able to communicate the benefits of their experience in future job interviews (building a professional narrative).
Regelung zur Anwesenheit:

Attendance, completion of the readings and active participation in class are necessary and expected components of your learning experience. You are allowed to miss 1 session in total. There is no distinction between “excused” or “unexcused” absences: for illnesses, doctor’s visits, family matters, job interviews, etc. Beginning with the second missed session, your course average will drop dramatically (a 1% deduction off of your final grade per missed day). Please speak with your instructor if you experience an emergency situation or have extenuating circumstances. Only in very rare instances will your instructor grant exceptions.

Beware that only emergencies with doctor's certificate will be considered  if you are unable to attend the final session of the Vienna Plus presentations.

Lehr-/Lerndesign:

Lecture, Individual Reflection, Discussion/Group work, Oral Presentations, Workshops
