The specializations in economics consist of the specialization Economics Core and the specialization Economics Fields. The specialization Economics Fields offers students the possibility to choose between different areas of economics and to deepen their knowledge of these.

A specialization in economics will help you to better understand how the world works. Economics has an extremely broad set of applications, and our specialization prepares you well for a range of Master's studies and most occupational fields for economists, both in Austria and internationally. Economics training provides you with valuable transferable skills, such as presentation and communication, as well as teaching you how to deal with data and complex decision problems. Particular career areas include governments, international organizations, academia, civil service, banking, media, statistics and also management consulting firms. |

1. Application: To apply for Economics Fields please register for LV 5234 'Access to Specialization: Economics Fields.' We recommend that you prepare and upload a letter of motivation upon registration. Note: If you have already been admitted to the Specialization Economics Core, you do not need to upload another letter for the Specialization Economics Fields. The letter is not mandatory, but in case that the number of applications exceeds the available places, it contributes to your success of being accepted. In the letter, you should explain the reasons for your application and/or discuss an issue of economic relevance and interest to you. For example, you may consider providing answers to the following questions: Why do I want to study Economics? Is there a particular topic of economics I want to understand (can I describe that topic)? What economic challenges do I see as the most important (and why)? What do I expect from a training in economics? Etc. Application is open from January 25th to February 4th, 2024. 2. Admission: We can admit approximately 10-15 students for the specialization Economics Fields. We admit students based on the following criteria: In general, preference will be given to students who have already been admitted to the Specialization Economics Core, and a selection (if necessary due to capacity constraints) is based both on the number of completed courses and grade point average in the respective courses in the Core. For those who apply for the Specialization Economics Fields without a Core, we admit students based on the number and grade point average of completed Foundation courses (particularly in Micro- and Macroeconomics, Contemporary Challenges in Business and Economics, and Quantitative Methods). In addition, we read your letter of motivation. In case that we face capacity constraints, we prioritize students who express a special interest in the Specialization Economics Fields in their letters. You will be notified of your admission via email to your WU email account. 3. Final registration for Economics Fields Courses: Admitted students need to finally register for Economics Fields Courses. Registration for admitted students is open from February 15th, 2024. |
