Inhalte der LV:

The course is designed to introduce students to academic research with a focus on helping students work on their proposals for a Master thesis. We will cover all aspects of writing a successful thesis, such as conducting literature reviews, academic writing, development of research questions, and research designs. Thematically we will discuss topics from the core subjects of the ExInt program with a particular focus on the management of employees in international SMEs. 

 

Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

Mastering the important basics of writing a Master thesis with a focus on:

  • Research proposal and academic writing
  • Understanding and application of various research designs (both quantitative and qualitative)
  • Critical evaluation and discussion of theoretical foundations and extant academic studies 
  • In-depth study of core topics from the ExInt Master's program with a focus on the management of employees in international SMEs
  • Ability to critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of theoretical concepts and reflect on the contribution of scientific research
Regelung zur Anwesenheit:

Attendance is compulsory for all units of the course. A maximum of two units may be missed in order to fulfill the attendance requirement.

Lehr-/Lerndesign:

This course is highly interactive. It is designed in such a way as to maximize your learning by balancing between lecture and your involvement in discussions and exercises. It is absolutely necessary that you read all required materials in advance in order to be able to contribute to class discussion. 

Leistung(en) für eine Beurteilung:

  • Homework: 2 mini research proposals (1 page each, single-spaced) 30% (due dates: 13th March, 10th April)
  • Proposal (written): 30%
  • Proposal (presentation): 20%
  • Participation: 20%

Grading key:

90-100% = 1

80-89% = 2

70-79% = 3

60 - 69% = 4

59% and below = 5
