Inhalte der LV:

GMLP 1 focusses on key concepts of the concentration area. It deals with a variety of understandings and uses of (multi-level) governance, globalization and power.

It deals with interrelated development processes on various spatial levels (from urban/local/regional to European and global). We will deal with uneven development at these levels, theoretical concepts for understanding this development, the role and behaviour of key actors (firms, public and political actors, civil society organisations) and institutions as well as with multi-level governance approaches targeting this development.

Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

After completion of Globalization and Multi Level Policy (GMLP) students

  • are capacitated to mobilise multiple (interdisciplinary) perspectives, concepts and theories to understand contemporary global policy challenges and to shape respective policies
  • understand the importance of actors, institutions, power and the governance of knowledge to tackle real world processes
  • have obtained an overview of multi-level policy strategies and mechanisms including urban, regional, European and global governance
  • dispose of conceptual and analytical tools to understand and problematize policy discourses and strategies.
Regelung zur Anwesenheit:

Two sessions can be missed without justification. More missed courses need justification.

Lehr-/Lerndesign:

The course applies a combination of:

· Readings of relevant theories and concepts
