This course deals with issues multinational firms face today when doing business in the economies of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Key characteristics of the region are presented, a brief overview of the economic transition process after the fall of the Iron Curtain is given and its implications for doing business today discussed. Frameworks and methods will be presented that help managers in designing an appropriate market entry strategy and marketing strategy for CEE markets. Furthermore, competitive strategies are analyzed from a foreign and domestic company perspective. Special attention is also given to the management and organization of CEE activities. |

GRADING The course grade will be determined as follows:
As a basic principle, all group reports receive one grade. I expect that each group member contributes equally to the preparation of the research project, case reports and presentations. Anyhow, there will be a peer-rating included in the assessment of the individual performance. In order to assess the individual in-class participation I will check the number and quality of posts via the chat function and verbal contributions during the classes, thereby using the following indicative scheme: 5 pts. = above average, 3 pts. = average, 1-0 = below average/non existing. Grading scheme: 0-59 = 5; 60-65 = 4; 66-75 = 3; 76-85 = 2; 86-100 = 1. |
