Inhalte der LV:

This course teaches, discusses and applies management concepts and theories that are important in public administration and non-profit organizations.

The following topics are covered in detail:

  • Management as problem solving:
    • Problem analysis
    • Development of solutions
    • Justification of solution approaches
  • Selected theories and concepts of public and non-profit management from the following subject areas:
    • fundraising, inclusion,
    • carbon management,
    • reputation management, governance and protection of vulnerable stakeholders.
Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

After completing the course, students should be able to ...

  • analyze complex problems arising in the practice of public and non-profit management,
  • develop proposals for solving management problems in the public and non-profit sector,
  • provide justifications for problem solutions that are
    • logical,
    • based on strong evidence,
    • relevant to the problem and
    • clearly presented.
Regelung zur Anwesenheit:

Attendance of 80% is required for the dates listed in the eVVZ. In the case of cumulative absences of more than 20%, the course must be repeated.

Absences of up to 20% on the student's own responsibility are possible (e.g. due to overlapping dates with other courses, professional reasons, etc.). In these cases, a short written compensatory examination (three questions) on the content of the course script must be taken at the end of the course. The grade for this exam counts for 20% of the overall grade (i.e. 120% in total). The examination date will be agreed with the affected students.

For absences for important reasons that are beyond the student's control (e.g. illness, train delay), confirmation (e.g. medical certificate, photo evidence of train delay) must be submitted on request. No compensation examination is required for such absences.

Lehr-/Lerndesign:

    The following methods are used:

    • Teaching discussion
    • Reading of literature
    • Group work on case studies
    Leistung(en) für eine Beurteilung:

    Assignments  are to be completed in group work.
    Points can be redistributed within the group depending on individual performance

    Case 1: 20 points
    Case 2: 40 points
    Case 3: 40 points

    Grading scale:

    1 --> 87-100

    2 --> 75-86

    3 --> 63-74

    4 --> 52-62

    5 --> 0-51
