Inhalte der LV:

Industrial Organisation is concerned with the behavior of firms in markets with imperfect competition. This Research and Policy Seminar supplements the specialization course in Industrial Organization (which surveys major topics in this field). The seminar focuses on empirical applications of IO models and discusses recent topics in competition policy. Topics vary. The seminar can also serve as a starting point for a master thesis in this field.

Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

The primary objective is to provide a framework in which students can review and solidify their understanding of IO concepts and models by applying those concepts to specific issues. By the end of the course, students will be able to (a) model and predict market outcomes in imperfectly competitive markets (b) explain the differences in market efficiency amongst the various market settings (c) evaluate the strategies and responses of firms with the various market settings (d) understand the potential sources of market failure in markets with imperfect competition, as well as the policy instruments available to competition authorities and regulators monitoring such markets.
