The self-organized lecture (SOLV) is a course organized from students for students. Each semester we discuss topics that do not get sufficient attention in our regular curriculum. 

This semester’s topic is the European Union. You will be introduced to the structure, history, and policies of the EU. Over time you will learn more about selected topics related to the current challenges facing the EU, past and approaching policy decisions, and about the future of the EU in light of the upcoming elections.

The course is structured as a lecture series. Each lecture will feature a different expert to provide an overview of the topic from different perspectives and schools of thought.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Get to know the structure and institutions of the European Union
  • Understand the structure of monetary policy 
  • Learn about the latest state of the economy and policies of the EU
  • Critical questioning of past, current, and future economic policies
  • Improve your discussion skills
  • Work with recent papers
  • Academic writing and critical thinking
Attendance requirements:

Mandatory attendance. Absence from class twice is permitted.

Students who do not want to receive a grade for the course but are interested in the lectures and literature should also register on LPIS.  

Teaching/learning method(s):

The SOLV is structured as a lecture series. Each and every one of the 12 lectures is held by a different expert. The lectures are split into one 1.5 hours part of lecturing and a following discussion session.

Assessment:
  • 30% Active participation in class
  • 30% Response paper
  • 40% Analyses on everyday political topics
