Inhalte der LV:

This 2-semester project seminar is the core course of the Master Class CEE 2023-24. The topic of this seminar is "Environmental Sustainability in CEE". After our literature and internet research in the winter semester, we will now turn to concrete themes centering around environmental similarities and differences regarding awareness, performance in reducing GHG, drivers and barriers influencing the adoption of sustainable practices between countries in CEE. Moreover, we will shed light on the contributions of multinational firms in spreading good practices in CEE.

Lernergebnisse (Learning Outcomes):

Participants of the course shall

  • Get an overview of the current developmentsregarding environmental sustainability in Europe in general and in CEE markets in particular;
  • Understand which sustainability issues are dominating the public discussion in the countries and how differences in performance in fighting GHG and biodiversity degradation can be explained;
  • Learn how foreign multinational firms are contributing to the reduction of emissions and how they deal with the trade-off between sustainability and financial performance.
Regelung zur Anwesenheit:

To pass the course participants have to attend not less than 80% of the classes. Absence in class has to be compensated by higher inputs into group work.

Lehr-/Lerndesign:

The class will continue with the development of an adequate research design. Highlighting goal conflicts, dilemmas and potential solutions/best-practice cases  shall be part of the research. Finally, the findings of the project have to be transformed into a report and a presentation.

Leistung(en) für eine Beurteilung:

This is a course with continuous assessment of student performance. The individual course grade will be determined as follows:

40% - Contribution to data collection, analysis & interpretation

40% - Contribution to the development and quality of the final report & presentation

20% - Individual in-class participation in general (e.g. class discussion) as well as in sessions with invited experts and during company visits (e.g. questions).

Attendance is mandatory. To pass the course participants have to attend not less than 80% of the classes. Absence in class has to be compensated by higher inputs into group work.

The grading scheme: 0-55 = 5; 56-65 = 4; 66-75 = 3; 76-85 = 2; 86-100 = 1.
