Prof. Stephanie Hoffer

Professor Stephanie Hoffer is a Fulbright scholar and an expert on United States federal income taxation. She has written extensively on a broad range of topics within the field, including corporate reorganizations, international transactions, tax administrative procedure, and the intersection of tax and disability. She has presented her work both at home and abroad and has testified before the United States Treasury, the Internal Revenue Service, and various legislative committees. Her research on tax collection due process won the John Minor Wisdom Award for best lead article in the Tulane Law Review, and her writings on tax administrative procedure have been cited by federal courts. Professor Hoffer joined the faculty of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2008 after her appointment as a visiting assistant professor at the Northwestern University School of Law. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Public Interest Law Foundation and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio. Following her receipt of an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law, she served as a law clerk for Judge Alice M. Batchelder of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She holds a J.D. from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and she practiced law as an associate in taxation at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. She is also the Lawrence a. Jegen III Chair in Tax Law at Indiana University’s McKinney School of Law. Professor Hoffer teaches International Taxation, Taxation of Business Entities, Federal Income Tax, Tax Policy, and Contracts I.
