USE-CASES OF BLOCKCHAIN IN AN INTERNATIONAL TAX CONTEXT: WITHHOLDING TAXES AND BEYOND
We are pleased to invite you to our online workshop: Use-cases of blockchain in an international tax context: withholding taxes and beyond
The workshop will take place on date/time in October, 2021 - TBC
The workshop will focus on how blockchain technology can be used in conjunction with other advanced technologies to address inefficiencies and complexities in the cross-border withholding tax (WHT) processes.
At the workshop we will discuss the outcomes of a successful cross-sector multi-stakeholder pilot project which was aimed at testing a WHT blockchain-based solution that can help in the administration of international WHT. This collaborative effort involved participants from public and private sectors:
Governments: United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Norway
Industry: BNP Paribas Securities Services, Citibank, N.A.; JP Morgan Securities Services; Northern Trust; APG Asset Management N.V.; PGGM Investments, EY and others
Academia: Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria and the Tax Administration Research Centre - TARC, University of Exeter, United Kingdom.
Participants of the pilot project will share their experience, expertise, lessons learned, and impressions about the collaborative pilot project and discuss what might come next.
We will then follow with a discussion focused on the potential for blockchain-based technology to contribute to resolving outstanding tax policy challenges, which will be covered from the point of view of policy makers such as European Commission and OECD.
