Short Bio

Dr. Christian Buchta received his doctoral degree in Economics and Business Administration from WU-Wien in 1994. He was with the Institute for Tourism and Leisure Studies at WUWien in the position of assistant professor in the Management Science program from 2003 to 2009. He taught courses in the areas of data mining and data warehousing, Internet, and marketing engineering. His research interests include simulation of consumer markets, Web technologies, or sequence and text mining.

From 2006 to 2008 he was in the position of project leader of Dynamic Packaging at ITF and a project member of Recommender Systems for Trading Stocks at the Institute for Production Management. For the former project he explored selective association rule mining on the Austrian Guest Survey data and semantic analysis of search queries on www.austria.info. For the latter project he designed and implemented the online data acquisition and recommender processes. During his time in consulting he designed and implemented a forecasting model of daily, nationwide levels of calls by tariff categories for Telekom Austria. He has a comprehensive knowledge of operations research methods, statistics, and computer science. He is proficient in modeling, algorithm and systems design and has a professionallevel knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, SQL, and javascript. He has been working with the Linux operating system since 1993. He is the (co)author of several packages of the open source statistical software R.
