Dr Hartmann has been employed at the University of South Australia since 1987, when she began studies for her Masters Degree. Prior to that her employment included appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the Family Planning Association of South Australia and over a period of 10 years as Staff Development Officer and District Officer Manager with the Department for Community Welfare in South Australia. In 1981 she was selected for the Executive Development programme of the South Australian Public Service Board.
Prior to completing her qualifications in Social Work and Education in 1977, she travelled the world, doing secretarial work in London, working on a Kibbutz in Israel and as a flight attendant in Canada.
Her teaching and curriculum development experience encompasses communication, organization theory and behaviour, organizational change, human resource management and strategy, and more recently international human resource management.
Her research interests include issues associated with organizational commitment, workforce diversity, and work values. In addition, her role as Chair, Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of South Australia from 1999-2001 encouraged her interest in research methods and ethics.
Dr Hartmann was Book Review Editor, Journal of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Management from 1995-1999, member of the joint South Australian Universities organizing committee for the annual conference of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management, Adelaide, December 1998, and member of the Scientific Committee, The Bi-annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Work and Organisational Values in Istanbul, July 1998, Jerusalem, 2000, and Warsaw, 2002.
