Guest Talk: Process Mining in the Australian insurance sector

Abstract 

During this presentation, Dr Wynn will share some of the insights gained from the latest in process mining research conducted within the Australian insurance sector. In particular, she will present key findings from context analysis, cohort-based analysis and document analysis using process data. She will also discuss one of the BPM group’s research initiatives to address data quality challenges in process mining.

BIO

Dr Wynn holds a PhD in the area of workflow management from Queensland University of Technology (2007). She made significant research contributions in the areas of formal execution semantics of process models, process verification and process mining over the past ten years (Google scholar h-index: 20, 67+ refereed publications; citations: 1790+). She published papers in well-known journals in the field of BPM: Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Information Sciences, ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Computing, Information and Software technology, Formal Aspects of Computing, Journal of Computer and System Sciences, Transactions on Petri Nets and Other Models of Concurrency, Computers in Industry, Journal of Information Technology Theory and Applications and Journal of the Association for Information Systems. Her current research interests are in the areas of big process data analytics and comparative process mining. Dr Wynn is a pioneer in industry-informed process mining research in Australia. She successfully steered QUT’s BPM research group’s very first process mining case study that was conducted with Suncorp, the largest insurer in Australia, in the area of insurance claims processing. The success of this industry collaborative research has led to other industry engagements with a number of Australian organizations in the insurance, health, retail and transport sectors. Dr Wynn is a member of IEEE Taskforce on Process Mining and a working group member for IEEE standardization of XES log standard. She has a long-standing track record of successful research collaborations with BPM researchers around the world. She co-developed the training materials for continuing professional education program of the BPM Discipline and delivered numerous courses to managers and analysts of over 20 Australian organizations. She also provides consultancy services on the topic of process mining to Australian organizations.
