Assistant Professor, non-tenure track position

The

Institute for Information Business

is currently inviting applications for

a 100 % (40 hours/week) Assistant Professor, non-tenure track position

(employee pursuant to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement for university staff - Angestellte/r gemäß Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmer/innen der Universitäten; gross monthly salary: € 3.411,70). This employee position will be limited to a period from November 1, 2013 (commencement date subject to change)

until October 31, 2019.


Please note that under the terms of the WU personnel development plan, the position of Assistant Professor, non-tenure track, is limited to an employment period of not more than six years. Applicants who are already employed at WU as substitute employees can therefore only be employed for the time remaining to complete the six-year period. Persons who have already been employed at WU in an Assistant Professor, non-tenure track position cannot be re-employed in this position at WU (except as a substitute employee) due to legal restrictions.

R

esponsibilities:

The candidate is expected to conduct reasearch independently and assist in WU's teaching programmes, as well as in organisational and administrative tasks. Proactiv, independent work in research projects including the co-supervision of junior researchers as well as active involvement in the acquisition of project funding (at national and EU level) are expected.

Required skills and qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD. or equivalent degree in computer science, social sciences and economy or mathematics with a research background and solid formal foundations in at least one of the following topic areas
- Semantic Web and Ontologies
- Data bases
- Linked Data, Open Data
- Knowledge representation & logical inference
- Big Data Analytics (Data Mining, Machine Learning, etc. preferrably in the context
  of Web data)

Desirable skills and qualifications:

Desirable additional knowledge and qualifications:
- Excellent record of publications and/or other achievements demonstrating an
  outstanding research productivity with respect to the applicants career stage
- Technical knowledge of programming languages such as Java and/or C/C++,
  Database query languages such als SOL and SPARQL, data formats such as RDF,
  XML as well as ontology languages, as well as project experience (for instance in
  EU projects or national research projects).
- Experience in the administration of server hardware for research projects (Linus
  or alike)
- Experience with relational databases systems, RDF stores or other NoSQL data
  bases
- Experience with reasoning engines such as inference engines for Description
  Logics or OWL
- Experience with the acquisition and/or execution of publically funded research
  projects
- Experience in teaching and/or co-supervising junior researchers.
