Travel & Practicalities

Please find below key facts and main points of our symposium agenda as well as useful information for your stay in Vienna.

VENUE

The Illinois International Accounting Symposium will be held at our WU Campus in Vienna from May 30 – June 2, 2023.

WU’s address is Welthandelsplatz 1, 1020 Vienna. The WU Campus comprises of 7 building complexes. You can find the interactive campus map here.

The Ph.D. Consortium will take place in the AD building.

The presentations will be held in FOYER of the EA-Building (WU Executive Academy).

Lunches on Wednesday and Thursday will be prepared in the AD building.

TRANSPORTATION FROM/TO AIRPORT

For your transfer from/to the airport to the WU campus, we recommend to take the S-Bahn (Line 7, pink) to Wien Nord/Praterstern, then subway line U2 (direction: Aspernstraße or Seestadt) for one stop to “Messe Prater”. Do not take the CAT train service – it is more expensive and doesn’t stop at the train station “Wien Praterstern”.

If you prefer transfer by cab, we recommend to book the cab ride in advance, e.g. Vienna Airport Taxi.

TRANSPORTATION WITHIN VIENNA (during the conference)

To travel by public transport in Vienna’s city zone (e.g. S-Bahn and U-Bahn; but except CAT and tourist offers, e.g. Ring Tram), choose the ticket type that suits you best from the various offers of the Wiener Linien, depending on the length of your stay and your needs (the 7/31 days VIENNA-ticket pays off already for 3 days – ride all day).

REGISTRATION and WELCOME DINNER

The Welcome Reception Dinner on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, starts at 06:30 p.m. with registration and will take place in the attic of the ZOKU, Perspektivstraße 6, 1020 Vienna – very close to the WU Campus. There you will receive your name badge, which you please wear at all times during the symposium. Please pick up your welcome bag Wednesday morning at the Reception Desk in the EA-building.

All participants of the Ph.D. Consortium, please register on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, starting at 11:30 a.m. in the AD-Building.

The registration desk on Wednesday will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

OTHER ACTIVITIES/INFO

For the dinner on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 we are planning a trip to a typical Viennese wine tavern, Weinhof Zimmermann, Mitterwurzergasse 20, 1190 Vienna. We will go together by a reserved bus. The departure is at 6:30 p.m. in front of the hotel Bassena Wien Messe Prater,  Messestraße 2, 1020 Vienna. The bus return is scheduled at 10:00 p.m., leaving from Weinhof Zimmermann. If someone wants to return to the hotel earlier, feel free to let our team on site know. We will be happy to provide you with a ticket for the return trip by public transport.

The dinner on Thursday, June 1, 2023 will be directly on the WU Campus at “Das Campus” (D2-Building), at 06:00 p.m.

The city tour on Friday, June 2, 2023 is an effective and unique way to get to see the most beautiful places in Vienna. KPMG sponsors this exciting tour with an old heritage Ring Tram https://www.wienerlinien.at/vienna-ring-tram. The guided tour starts at 9:15 a.m. at Station Burgring. Our final stop, at around 10:45 a.m., will be the Austrian National Library and State Hall https://www.wien.info/en/sightseeing/sights/imperial/national-library-353578, a baroque jewel and the country’s largest library and central memory institution, where we will also have a quick guided tour (no extra charges apply). Further details will be announced during the conference.

If you already arrive in Vienna on the weekend prior or the beginning of the conference week, we would like to inform you that Monday, May 29, 2023, is a public holiday in Austria. Stores and supermarkets are closed, with only a few supermarkets at large train stations being open (e.g. Wien Praterstern – it’s close to WU Campus).
