WU Awards

The WU Awards, which will be held on June 22, 4:00pm, in the Forum of WU’s Library & Learning Center, is an event to honor outstanding achievements in research and teaching. The WU Summer Celebration festivities will start immediately after the award ceremony. At the WU Awards, WU honors excellence and innovation in teaching and outstanding publications by WU researchers. Together with the City of Vienna, WU will also present the Talenta awards for outstanding bachelor’s and master’s theses.

Talenta

The Talenta awards honor the six best bachelor’s and master’s theses completed at WU in the previous calendar year. The prizes are provided by the Anniversary Fund of the City of Vienna. The selection criteria for the year’s best theses are excellence, social relevance, accessibility, and diversity.


Excellent Teaching

WU’s students play a particularly important role in the selection process for the Excellent Teaching Awards. All nominations are made by the students. Through an online form, each student can nominate two WU faculty members for the award and explain the reasons for this choice. After the end of the nomination period, the nominations and reasons sent in by the students are forwarded to a jury, which then selects the winners based on evaluation results and the students’ comments.  

Innovative Teaching

The Innovative Teaching Award honors innovative course designs that employ new ideas and approaches to university-level teaching and learning. The call for entries is issued at the beginning of each year, and the winners are selected by a jury. This award also includes the eTeaching Award, which is presented to faculty members who show extraordinary commitment and initiative in the field of eTeaching and eLearning.  


Rewards for Outstanding Achievements in Research

WU rewards outstanding publications in top-rated journals with special bonuses. Bonuses are awarded in two categories: Star-journal publications and A-publications in other periodicals that are included in the various WU-specific journal ratings.
