Under the guidance of Prof. Verena Madner a new research project has been launched at the Research Institute for Urban Management and Governance in January 2021. The project “Cities4PEDs” is funded under the Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency.

In Cities4PEDs the cities of Vienna, Brussels and Stockholm collaborate with research and innovation experts to jointly investigate how relevant legal instruments and planning processes in cities need to be adapted to realise positive energy districts and neighbourhoods (so-called PEDs), which produce more energy than they consume. The project also analyses how this aim can be supported by organisational structures at neighbourhood level and how citizens and other local stakeholder can engage in the development of PEDs.
