WU Professor Ingrid Kubin appointed WIFO vice president

WU is pleased to an­nounce that WU Pro­fessor In­grid Ku­bin, chair of the De­part­ment of Eco­nom­ics and head of the In­sti­tute for In­ter­na­tional Eco­nom­ics and Devel­op­ment, has been ap­poin­ted vice pres­id­ent of WIFO, the Aus­trian In­sti­tute of Eco­nomic Re­search.

On May 18, 2017, In­grid Ku­bin was un­an­im­ously elec­ted new WIFO vice pres­id­ent at the WIFO Gen­eral Meet­ing. WIFO is a private, non­profit as­so­ci­ation. The Gov­ern­ing Board acts as WIFO’s su­per­vis­ory au­thor­ity. Pur­su­ant to the WIFO by-laws, the Gov­ern­ing Board is headed by a pres­id­ent and two vice pres­id­ents, one of which must be a pro­fessor of eco­nom­ics. As new vice pres­id­ent, In­grid Ku­bin re­places Chris­toph Badelt, who was ap­poin­ted WIFO dir­ector last fall.

About In­grid Ku­bin

In­grid Ku­bin stud­ied eco­nom­ics and law at the uni­versit­ies of Linz and Graz. She star­ted her aca­demic ca­reer as a teach­ing and re­search as­so­ci­ate and assist­ant pro­fessor at the Uni­versity of Graz, In­sti­tute of Eco­nom­ics. In 1990, she ob­tained her ve­nia do­cendi (hab­il­it­a­tion de­gree) in eco­nom­ics from the Uni­versity of Graz. From 1993 to 2002, In­grid Ku­bin worked as a pro­fessor of the­or­et­ical eco­nom­ics at the Uni­versity of Mainz. In 2002, she be­came pro­fessor of in­ter­na­tional eco­nom­ics at WU, where she has been head­ing the In­sti­tute for In­ter­na­tional Eco­nom­ics and Devel­op­ment. In 2012, Ku­bin was also ap­poin­ted chair of WU’s De­part­ment of Eco­nom­ics. She was a vis­it­ing pro­fessor at the Uni­versity of Paris III in 1995 and Dalian Uni­versity, Ch­ina, in 1999. In ad­di­tion, she com­pleted a num­ber of re­search stays in the UK and Italy. Ku­bin’s main re­search in­terests are in­ter­na­tional and re­gional eco­nomic re­la­tions and dy­namic eco­nomic the­ory. In­grid Ku­bin is also pres­id­ent of the Aus­trian Eco­nomic As­so­ci­ation (NOeG) for the 2017/18 term.
