...in Bordeaux

KEDGE Business School, Bordeaux, France

I have been looking forward to my Erasmus semester in Bordeaux since I applied the year before. After having visited several cities in France, I can say that I really love this country for the beautiful landscapes, the delicious cuisine and the friendly people. Moreover, Bordeaux felt like a great choice because of the nice wine regions and the nearby ocean with beautiful surf spots.

Then, finally, in September 2015 I started my very personal experience abroad. Arriving at the campus of KEGDE Business School in Bordeaux, I felt at home immediately because of the modern teaching facilities and spacious grassed areas. Sports fans like me will also love the 4th floor of the building, where a gym, basketball courts and even a fitness center are located. Concerning the reputation, KEGDE is highly ranked in France and the academic program offers an extremely wide range of courses. Especially interesting are the classes of Wine Marketing and Global Wine Business, which I highly recommend in this famous red wine region. In general, attendance is mandatory and students work in small groups, which gives them the opportunity to meet new people.

The students at KEDGE are extremely friendly and you will immediately get to know the MeltingPotes, the association for international students. They are like family, organize social events and are always at students’ side with advice and support. Thanks to them it is also easier to meet other exchange students from all across the world. You will realize that even if you have just met and you may not have the same first language, you will become friends for a lifetime, explore the world and share unforgettable memories together.

Furthermore, what I can highly recommend is to join a KEDGE sports team - I joined the volleyball team, for example. It is the perfect way to improve your language skills and share the same passion for sport. Besides playing in the FinalVI of the „Coupe de France“, my very best personal experience was when my volleyball team and I won the Challenge Ecricome 2016, the most important sports event of the whole year, in Nancy. It was an unbelievably huge event with lots of supporters, cheerleaders and even some bands. Our final match was really very close and it was just an amazing feeling in the end to win in front of the whole crowd!

Concerning leisure time activities, I enjoyed my Erasmus stay to the very fullest. With my friends I went out to bars and restaurants, had nice soirées in apartments and danced the whole night in clubs. Apart from that we took walks by the river Garonne, played beach volleyball and not to forget went surfing. Travelling is also very beautiful around Bordeaux and you have endless possibilities. With my friends I went to St. Emilion for some wine tastings, to Cap-Ferret to eat delicious oysters, La Rochelle, Biarritz etc. Our most amazing trip, though, was to Marocco where we visited the gorgeous cities of Marrakesh and Essouira and did a one-night dromedary ride with Berbers in the Sahara desert. In conclusion, I must confess that never in my dreams have I thought that my Erasmus semester would be so amazing - I literally had the best time of my life! I met so many great people from all around the world, with whom I traveled and will share memories for a lifetime. I am so thankful that I had this life-enriching opportunity.
