Tu­ition Fees Reg­u­la­tions

Since the 2013 sum­mer semester, pur­su­ant to § 91 of the Uni­versit­ies Act 2002 (Uni­versitäts­ge­setz, UG), the fol­low­ing reg­u­la­tions con­cern­ing tu­ition fees ap­ply:

Mem­ber­ship to the Aus­trian Na­tional Union of Stu­dents (ÖH) is com­puls­ory for all de­gree pro­gram and non-de­gree pro­gram stu­dents and costs € 19.20. The ÖH mem­ber­ship dues must be paid by all stu­dents, in­clud­ing those whose tu­ition fees are waived. The ÖH mem­ber­ship dues does not in­crease in the ex­ten­ded en­roll­ment period.

Tu­ition-­free Semesters and Ad­di­tional Semesters

When cal­cu­lat­ing the num­ber of tu­ition-­free semesters for de­gree-­pro­gram stu­dents (does not ap­ply to third-­coun­try na­tion­als in pos­ses­sion of a res­id­ence per­mit for stu­dents - Aufenthalts­be­wil­li­gung Stud­i­er­ende), two ex­tra semesters are ad­ded to the stand­ard dur­a­tion of each cur­riculum.

Please note: All stu­dents are re­quired to pay Aus­trian Stu­dents' Union (ÖH) mem­ber­ship dues.

Cal­cu­la­tion of the pre­scribed dur­a­tion of stud­ies and the num­ber of per­miss­ible ad­di­tional semesters

The num­ber of semesters com­pleted is in­dic­ated by the re­spect­ive pro­gram code (pur­su­ant to § 5[4] of the Uni­versity Stud­ies Evid­ence Act [Uni­versitäts-Stud­ienevid­en­zver­or­d­nung, Un­iStEV], Fed­eral Law Gaz­ette II no. 288/2004 as amended; Fed­eral Law Gaz­ette II no. 161/2011 as amended) assigned to the pro­gram cur­riculum. Semesters com­pleted while en­rolled in one pro­gram are in­cluded in the semester cal­cu­la­tion of any new pro­gram en­rolled. Semesters stud­ied un­der one cur­riculum are ad­ded to­gether.

Waiver of Tu­ition Fees

The 2008 amend­ment of the Uni­versit­ies Act (Uni­versitäts­ge­setz 2002) res­ul­ted in changes to the reg­u­la­tions con­cern­ing tu­ition fees, in­clud­ing valid grounds for a waiver of tu­ition fees.

The ap­plic­a­tion period for the win­ter semester ends on Oc­to­ber 31 and for the sum­mer semester on March 31. Please sub­mit ap­plic­a­tions for a waiver of tu­ition fees to the Ad­mis­sions of­fice.

All doc­u­ments must be sub­mit­ted as ori­ginal doc­u­ments. Doc­u­ments is­sued in for­eign lan­guages must com­ply with the ap­pro­pri­ate reg­u­la­tions with regard to trans­la­tion and leg­al­iz­a­tion.

If it is not possible to sub­mit your ap­plic­a­tion for a tu­ition fee waiver be­fore Oc­to­ber 31 or March 31 for the re­spect­ive semester, or in the event that valid grounds for a tu­ition waiver (e.g. ill­ness, preg­nancy, or re­spons­ib­il­ity for the care of a child) oc­cur at a later date dur­ing the re­spect­ive semester, tu­ition fees must be paid. However, an ap­plic­a­tion for reim­burse­ment of these tu­ition fees can be sub­mit­ted, ac­com­pan­ied by the doc­u­ments named above, for the win­ter semester by March 31, and for the sum­mer semester by Septem­ber 30.

Valid Grounds for a Waiver of Tu­ition Fees

Reim­burse­ment of Tu­ition Fees

Ap­plic­a­tions for reim­burse­ment of tu­ition fees (see: valid grounds for a waiver, a to f) must be sub­mit­ted for the win­ter semester by March 31, and for the sum­mer semester by Septem­ber 30.

Ap­plic­a­tions for reim­burse­ment of tu­ition fees for cases not covered un­der items a-f of valid grounds for a waiver may be sub­mit­ted start­ing May 15 for the sum­mer semester and start­ing Decem­ber 15 for the win­ter semester.The ap­plic­a­tion period is lim­ited to a max­imum of 6 months, i.e. the ap­plic­a­tion period for the sum­mer semester ends on Novem­ber 15, and for the win­ter semester on June 15. Reim­burse­ment of over­-pay­ment can be ap­plied for at any time.
