Tomas Marttila is from October 2018 assistant professor in sociology at the WU with a particular focus on economic sociology. Before joining the WU, he was senior lecturer at the Department of Sociology at the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich. He studied political science, economic history and history at the University of Lund (Sweden) and University College of Dublin (Ireland). Tomas Marttila completed his doctorate in sociology at the University of Bamberg, where he also obtained the formal qualification of a professor (Habilitation) in 2016. Tomas Marttila has multifaceted research interests. He has published several articles and books on the culture of enterprise, neoliberalism, post-foundational social theory, and implementation of discourse analysis in empirical social research. His current research is located in the field of political sociology and deals with the rise of global standards of education. Tomas Marttila supervises PhD, Master and Bachelor thesis in the areas of economic sociology, political sociology, qualitative methods of social research, social structure analysis, and sociological theory.
