Specialisation Retail and Marketing
The Institute for Retailing and Marketing offers solid training in the theory, methods, and techniques of marketing, with a focus on the specific aspects of retail management. The Institute seeks to give its students a solid understanding of the theoretical foundations of retail marketing and the skills needed for dealing with specific problems in real-life practice.
Specialisation Retail and Marketing: Courses
In the bachelor´s programme, the Institute offers two compulsory courses on the fundamentals of retail marketing, which are followed and complemented by various in-depth electives that focus on key aspects of retailing, such as sales, logistics and communication. Students also have the opportunity to implement their knowledge in a retail marketing consulting project (see table).
The education offered at our institute has a strong interdisciplinary focus and includes practically applicable skills. We are particularly proud of the "Praxisdialog", where "real life" know-how and insights are offered by professionals. Career opportunities of a graduate from our institute will typically be in the areas of retailing, sales, marketing and market research. But even during their professional lives many of the around 80 annual graduates chose to stay in contact with the Institute. This close tie to our work was illustrated by the founding of the Alumni Platform Platform for Retail ("Plattform für den Handel" / PfH) by graduates of Prof Schnedlitz in 1996. Guests of Honour include Karl Wlaschek and Franz Krenthaller. The PfH regularly organises events and guests often include international retail heavyweights such as Wal-Mart International CEO Bob Martin (the only public appearance of a Wal-Mart executive in Europe), REWE General Director Hans Reischl, SPAR General Director Gerhard Drexel as well as Aldi/Hofer General Director Armin Burger, in the only ever public appearance by an Aldi/Hofer executive.
