Nils Wlömert as new head of the Institute

01/01/2021

As of January 1st, 2021, Nils Wlömert took up the professorship for Retailing & Data Science at the Department of Marketing. He will be the new head of the Institute for Retailing & Marketing, following Professor Schnedlitz, who hands over management after almost 30 years.

Nils Wlömert received his PhD in Marketing from the University of Hamburg and was an assistant professor of Marketing at the Institute for Interactive Marketing & Social Media at WU Vienna, where he completed his habilitation in 2020. During this time, he was a visiting researcher at various international universities, such as the University of New South Wales, the New York University, Tel Aviv University, and the University of Technology in Sydney.

His research interests center around the questions of how new technologies impact markets and firms’ business models. In his habilitation, for example, he studied the impact of new online distribution channels on traditional distribution channels and the interplay of these channels in multi-channel distribution settings. His research is often based on the analysis of enormous datasets that cover the different dimensions of firm and customer behavior.

“I feel honored to become the successor of Professor Schnedlitz at the Institute for Retailing & Marketing.” states Nils Wlömert. With an emphasis on data-driven methods to support decision-making in Marketing, he wants to further shape hands-on research and teaching. “I am looking forward to research cooperations with companies, where we can address real-life problems using evidence-based and state of the art approaches.” His teaching focus will be on the mediation of skills in the area of quantitative analysis methods. “There is a strong demand on the job market for methodological skills, nowadays they form an integral part of the job profile of a marketing manager.”

We wish Dr. Wlömert a successful start at the institute!
