11/03/2022

The William F. Sharpe Award for Scholarship in Financial Research is presented by the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis (JFQA). The Award recognizes researchers who have most contributed to our understanding of important areas of financial economics.

The JFOA has honored Josef Zechner (Institute for Finance, Banking and Insurance) along with his colleagues Jaewon Choi (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Yonsei University) and Dirk Hackbarth (Boston University Questrom School of Business, CEPR, and ECGI) for their study “Granularity of Corporate Debt.” The study uses a sample of corporate bond issuers from 1991 to 2012 to examine whether and how companies spread the maturity dates of their debt.

The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis is considered one of the most prestigious journals in finance. Nominees for the Sharpe Prize are selected by a vote of JFQA readers and associate editors. The final selection is made by the JFQA Managing Editors. The Sharpe Award comes with a prize of €5,000.
