Step 3: Admission

Admission requirements

  • Admission to the program not only requires the positive completion of the selection procedure but also fulfillment of the formal admission requirements.

  • Admission to the bachelor’s program is only possible during the general enrollment period. Please note that the application period and the enrollment period (= admission period) end on September 5 for the winter semester and February 5 for the summer semester.

The steps you need to complete in the admission process:

Making an appointment online

When?
The possibility to make an appointment starts two weeks before the general enrollment period begins or after you have been informed about the results of the selection procedures.

Where?
Please make an appointment for your admission online – please check your personal details and educational data for completeness first. The survey at the beginning of your studies must also be completed. An appointment can only be booked when you have completed these points!

How?
Please log in with your email address and your password and choose an appointment on the last page. If you do not keep your chosen appointment, please cancel it in time so that another student can book it.

If you already are a WU student or were a WU student in the past, please send us an email during the admission period to studienzulassung@wu.ac.at from your WU account or from a private email address with a copy of your ID card.

Digital photo

A digital photo is required for your student ID card.

  • Option 1: You can upload a passport photo during the online pre-registration process.

  • Option 2: You can take a photo using one of the self-service terminals in front of the Study Service Center.
Please save this photo together with your email address and password.

Submission of documents

Please submit the following original documents (+ copy of each document) in person or by post:

Study Service Center/Admissions International
LC building, level +2
Welthandelsplatz 1
1020 Vienna
Austria

Please submit the fully completed application for admission to study to Admissions:

  • by September 5 for admission in the winter semester

  • by February 5 for admission in the summer semester

We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible.

Processing your application will take at least 12 weeks. Please keep in mind that there may also be other administrative procedures you’ll have to complete before starting your degree program (e.g. applying for a residence permit).

Supplementary Examinations

If your secondary school leaving certificate differs significantly from an Austrian secondary school leaving certificate (will be checked when processing your application for admission), you need to pass certain supplementary examinations as part of the Vienna University Preparation Programme (VWU), before you will be admitted to the bachelor’s programs at WU. While you attend the VWU, you will be admitted to a non-degree program at WU.

In case you have already studied at a university, please submit an official transcript of records. Successfully completed courses may be taken into account to reduce the number of supplementary examinations required.

Payment of tuition fees

You have to pay your tuition fees or Students’ Union (ÖH) dues every semester. If you fail to make the payments, your enrollment will expire.
