Step by step:

Complete the online pre-registration

For admission to the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities, please select University Preparation Programme (Vorstudienlehrgang) at pre-registration.

You will need to register both for the University Preparation Programme AND the selection procedure for the 2022/23 academic year if:

1. You plan to attend the University Preparation Programme for only one semester and enroll in a German-taught bachelor’s program in the 2023 summer semester, or

2. you will be taking the supplementary exam without attending the VWU preparatory course and plan to enroll in a German-taught bachelor’s program in the winter semester of 2022/23 or the summer semester of 2023.

Submission of documents

Please present the following original documents to the Study Service Center/International Admissions in person or send them by postal mail (LC building, level +2, Welthandelsplatz 1, 1020 Vienna, Austria):

• Secondary school leaving certificate/degree certificate plus list of grades (final transcript)

• If applicable: successful completion of the university entrance exam in the country of issuance of your secondary school leaving certificate (e.g. Turkey, Brazil, China, Iran).

• Translations and legalizations of the required documents (if applicable)

• German certificate (at least A2)

• Completed application form

• CV with a complete presentation of your education (no time gaps)

• Copy of your passport (only the page with your personal data)

• An additional photocopy of all original documents

Your application for admission must be received by the Admissions Office in full:

• No later than September 5 for the winter semester

• No later than February 5 for the summer semester

We recommend submitting your application as early as possible, as the processing time takes at least 12 weeks . Please bear in mind that you may also need to undertake further steps before you can begin your studies (e.g. applying for a residence permit).

After you have received your admission notice from us, please proceed as follows:

1. Check the website of the University Preparation Programme in order to find course providers and information on course fees: www.vwu.at

2. Sign up for the required courses and pay the course fees

You can also sit the required supplementary examinations indicated in your admission notice directly without attending the preparatory courses beforehand (please refer to https://vorstudienlehrgang.at/en/vienna/exams/ for detailed information on supplementary examinations and examination dates).

Admission as a non-degree program student at WU

As soon as you have signed up for the course and paid the course fees, please return to the Study Service Center to enroll as a non-degree program student. Please make an appointment for your admission online. The enrollment deadline is September 5 for the winter semester and February 5 for the summer semester.

While attending a German course as non-degree program student, you are not allowed to attend any courses as part of the regular degree program. Once you’ve passed all necessary supplementary exams as part of the Vienna University Preparation Programme, you’ll be admitted to the bachelor’s program as a degree program student.
