14/06/2019

Yesterday, June 13, WU Vienna welcomed over 8,500 guests to its annual Summer Celebration on Campus WU. WU faculty, staff, students, partners, alumni, and area residents came together to celebrate the end of the academic year. Campus WU was turned into a stage, hosting performances of internationally famous musical acts. Visitors experienced Campus WU as a bustling meeting place open to everyone.

Since 2016, the WU Summer Celebration has been an annual highlight for all friends of WU. This year’s edition was attended by approximately 8,500 guests, who came together on Campus WU on a perfect summer evening to celebrate the end of the academic year and the start of the summer break.

A program for young and old
The exciting program offered something for everyone. In the afternoon, the Summer Celebration kicked off with the kids’ program for the youngest guests. Kronehit DJ Matthias Daniel had everyone up on their feet and dancing with his electronic beats, and the Street Food Market served up delicious culinary treats.

Free shows by popular musical acts
After the official opening by WU Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger, Austrian hit musicians “Another Vision,” “KTEE,” “Erwin & Edwin,” and “Josh” rocked the stage in front of an enthusiastic crowd. After midnight, the party people flocked to the official after-show event at the nearby Pratersauna nightclub.

Awards for outstanding academic achievements
As every year, the Summer Celebration also included the WU Awards, a ceremony to recognize and honor the excellent performance of WU researchers and teachers. WU and the City of Vienna also presented the Talenta Awards to the authors of outstanding bachelor’s and master’s theses completed at WU.

100 Years of Research at WU
At the “100 Jahre Forschung” stand, guests could get first-hand insights into WU’s research, which answers today’s questions about business, the economy, and society. The “100 Jahre Forschung” initiative gives the public the opportunity to ask questions about these topics and have them answered in depth by competent WU researchers.
