Carla Weinzierl works as a political economist and interdisciplinary social scientist on questions regarding social-ecological transformations and societal development. Her research interests are social innovation, social cohesion, social movements, food governance, food sovereignty, climate justice and energy democracy. In a past research project, the focus was on the role of socially innovative initiatives in the transformation of welfare state regimes, with particular attention to participation and social cohesion in immigrant societies. She is currently researching Smart City discourses and their role in the transformation of urban agriculture. She is a member of the editorial board of the Austrian Journal of Development Studies. As a board member of Attac Austria she is furthermore active in the fields of economic, trade, food and environmental policy.
