New library system

The WU University Library will change to a new library system in the period from Friday, July 28, 2017 to Sunday, August 20, 2017. Please note that some of our services for borrowing or requesting books will be unavailable during this period.

Library account – new login data

With our new library system, the login to your library account is now handled by WU’s central login server. For this reason, you now have to use new login data to access your library account.

New login data:

WU staff

Library ID no. with prefix “bib” (bib123456) + your personal library password*

*Please enter library passwords in lowercase letters only.

WU students

WU login: student ID number (h01234567) + WU password

Should you encounter any problems, please contact

What do you need to know about the new system and what will change

Before the transition

Your personal borrowing history in your library account will not be transferred to the new system. The deadline for backing up your data is Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

Active loans, holds placed on media, and media saved as favorites, will be transferred to the new system.

After the transition

For data protection reasons, the new system will no longer save lists of media you have previously borrowed. Three months after returning the media, the item will be deleted from your borrowing history, so it’s important to save your borrowing history on a regular basis.

What is Alma?

Alma is a cloud-based software for the efficient management of library collections. Alma also supports collaborations with partner institutions. Many library collections worldwide include the same digital and print media. Alma facilitates the collaborative use of metadata to describe and manage these media using standardized formats and according to standard library practice. Alma can also be used for strategic collection development with cooperating institutions.

Data protection

Protecting users’ personal data is very important to us. Therefore, user data are saved within Alma in encrypted form and can only be read by authorized staff. The physical storage is a server in the Netherlands, within EU jurisdiction. Alma has all certifications required for a cloud-based software service and fulfills all legal requirements according to the new EU General Data Protection Regulation.
