Katharina Pernkopf

Short biography

Katharina Pernkopf conducts research in the wider field of organizational institutionalism and (comparative) HRM. She is interested in how organizations and individuals manage tensions at work, e.g., institutional demands vs. organizational rules, global standards vs. local practices, organizational vs. personal values. She leads a research project on the implementation of the European Working Time Directive in Viennese hospitals and how decision makers (e.g. management, professionals, HRM) in these organizations cope with various expectations towards limiting doctors’ work time and solving coordination problems along the way. Furthermore, she does research on employer branding and related phenomena as well as their implications for organizations and individuals, e.g. multinational companies adjusting its employer brand to various national settings or initial job seekers’ reactions to mixed signals (recruiting website vs. online employer reviews). Further, she is interested in current developments such new ways of working (e.g., “Uberization of Work”) or HR analytics.

Since July 2014 Katharina Pernkopf has been assistant professor at the interdisciplinary institute for management and organizational behaviour. Her work has been published in the Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Management Inquiry, ESEEN, Personnel Review and the European J. Cross-Cultural Competence and Management.
