2017 European Meeting of the Economic Science Association, 6-9 Sep
From 6 to 9 September 2017, WU will host the European Meeting of the Economic Science Association (ESA). Founded in 1986, the ESA is a professional organization dedicated to using controlled experiments to learn about economic behavior. ESA conferences have established themselves as the most important conferences in Europe and North America on the use of experimental methods in the field of behavioral and development economics. The ESA welcomes participation by researchers interested in the results of such experiments, including scholars in economics, psychology, business, political science, and other related fields. The 2017 European Meeting is jointly organized by the newly established WU Competence Center for Experimental Research (WULABS), the Institute for Markets and Strategy (Prof. Greiner), and the Institute for Public Sector Economics (Prof. Sausgruber). The conference covers a number of topics from behavioral and experimental economics that are of great importance for present and future research in the field of economics. We expect around 280 participants, mainly from mainland Europe and the UK, and presentations of around 250 papers.

Competence Center for Experimental Research and the WULABS Opening on May 3rd, 2017
How sensitive do consumers react to a brand when the media reports negatively about their advertising? Which tax system would citizens choose if they could vote on it directly? In the future, WU researchers will investigate these and many other questions in the laboratory of the new Competence Center for Experimental Research, which will be opened at 5 pm next Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017. After introductory words from the Vicerector for Research Stefan Pichler and the presentation of the laboratory, guests can experience experimental research up close and try their hand at experiments. All WU members are very cordially invited!
The new "Competence Center for Experimental Research" as well as the new WULABS under the leadership of Ben Greiner, Bernadette Kamleitner and Rupert Sausgruber will unite the already existing equipment for experimental research at the WU and expand it with a new large research laboratory. The additional infrastructure is funded by the Federal Ministry of Science and Research within the framework of the Universities' Structural Program and operated by the WU Competence Center in cooperation with the Institute for Advanced Studies.
This way, WU is strengthening its research infrastructure and content orientation in a particularly innovative area of economic and business research. "In recent years, the method of experimental research has established itself in many areas of business administration and economics, and even in the legal sciences. At the WU Competence Center for Experimental Research, researchers from the fields of finance, management, marketing, strategy and innovation, economics and business informatics are working together to investigate key economic issues in an experimental way, "said Professor Ben Greiner in a press release on the occasion of the opening.
