What explains the global political order? How do powerful nations diffuse their institutions, norms and laws into dependent nations?
These were some of the questions I got interested in when I worked with the International Red Cross in Africa, Asia and Central Europe.
I am currently working on questions of good governance – in particular, why well-intended reforms often fail to create political stability and accountability.
I hold a PhD in Economics and a BA in Political Science. I have conducted research at the Universities of Warwick, Groningen and Vienna. From 2014 to 2015 I was a Visitor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. I am planning an ERC Synergy Grant together with colleagues from Germany and the Netherlands.
