Florentin Glötzl and Armon Rezai win the Egon-Matzner-Award for Socioeconomics 2018

Our institute members Florentin Glötzl and Armon Rezai have been awarded the Egon-Matzner-Award for Socioeconomics 2018 for their article „A sectoral net lending perspective on Europe“ published in the Cambridge Journal of Economics, which sheds light on the role of lending and borrowing behavior of households, businesses, the government and the foreign sector for the build-up of the crisis. The award was handed over at the annual conference by the Centre of Public Finance and Infrastructure Policy of TU Vienna on 1st March 2018 which included contributions by former president Heinz Fischer and Stephan Schulmeister (WIFO) as well as a panel discussion on the future of affordable housing. The laudation speech by Prof. Wolfgang Blaas highlighted the sound combination of theoretical foundation and immediate policy relevance as a main reason for the international jury’s decision to confer the award to Florentin Glötzl and Armon Rezai for their article.
