Johannes is an Assistant Professor (non-Tenure Track) at the Institute for Data, Process and Knowledge Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business since April 2020. He is also affiliated with the Complexity Science Hub. He obtained his PhD on the application of network methods to the study of corruption, supervised by Janos Kertesz at Central European University, in 2019. Before moving to Vienna he was a postdoc with Markus Strohmaier at RWTH Aachen. He is currently studying how large groups of people work together online on platforms like Github and Stack Overflow. He is especially interested in applying the methods of complexity science and networks to understand how these communities grow and sustain themselves. During his PhD he was a visiting researcher at the Oxford Internet Institute, the Hertie School of Governance, and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
