125 Years of WU

Why networks matter

25/01/2023

The positive effect international cooperation has on every university is a well-known fact. WU fosters this international approach as it proves to be a reliable project partner for universities anywhere in the world.

Without international networks, we would not have celebrated so many successes in research and teaching. To be part of a network means to achieve even better and emergent results through an intensive exchange of ideas. This exchange also includes teaching and research activities for students and university staff at partner universities. Networks aim at making new contacts, sharing knowledge, increasing the university’s visibility, and supporting each other. True to the motto: Let’s network and use our connections!

Thanks to the consistent network management our university has been maintaining for decades now, WU is currently part of 22 university networks and maintains close relations to 240 partner universities throughout the world.

Engage.eu

Since 2020, WU has been a member of the European University ENGAGE.EU. ENGAGE.EU is an alliance of leading European universities in the field of business, economics and social sciences and aims to equip students with the necessary skill set to help shape a sustainable and positive future. ENGAGE.EU addresses current societal challenges such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, climate change and migration.

PRME

The PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) provide a binding framework for universities to incorporate responsibility and sustainability into teaching and research. The six PRMEs are based on internationally recognized values approved by the UN. More than 650 business schools (including WU) and other academic institutions focusing on management from 85 countries act on the basis of the PRME criteria.

CEMS

CEMS (The Global Alliance in Management Education) is a cooperation of business schools and universities with multinational companies and NGOs. Leading business schools wanting to provide their students with practical training for management positions in multilingual and multicultural companies founded the CEMS network in 1988. WU has been a member since 1990.

PIM

The network PIM (Partnership in International Management) was established in 1973. It includes 60 business schools. WU is the only Austrian university to belong to this exclusive network. The network’s goal is to foster cooperation between members, especially by creating joint academic programs and encouraging student and teacher mobility between member schools. Another important objective is joint research and transnational projects.

GBSN

GBSN (Global Business School Network) was originally established by the World Bank as a program for International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 2003. GBSN is a group of outstanding universities in business and economics with the common goal of building up a solid, local management education network in developing countries as huge amounts of money, resources and human potential are still being wasted because of bad management. Since 2017, WU provides high-potential GBSN universities in developing countries with scholarships to finance the International Summer UniversityWU.
