4th WU Symposium on International Business Communication

DICTIONARIES AND BEYOND

April 6-8, 2011

The use of dictionaries or related resources is part and parcel of the daily routine of linguists just as much as non-linguists. Whenever language, be it foreign or native, is used in a specific context, communicators will find themselves in situations in which they make use of dictionaries, glossaries, translation aids, etc. In using such materials, people rarely stop to think about the work behind the resource in question.
The aim of this symposium is therefore to provide a forum for renowned scholars and practitioners to showcase current research as well as ongoing projects in the area of lexicography. Thus, presentations will not only shed light on the various theories underlying this important field, but will also offer an insight into the extensive work associated with the actual compilation of dictionaries.
