Mission Statement

The Institute for Business Education at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna has the longest tradition in Austria. In the 1950s and 1960s the founder of the Austrian Business Education, Hans Krasensky, was the pioneer for Business Education, although the Departments of Business Management at the University of Economics and Business Administration (formerly University for World Trade) had already included teacher training for business subjects.

The philosophy behind business education training in Vienna entails both tradition and innovation. Business Education graduates are experts of planning, carrying out and carefully reflecting demanding teaching and learning processes on economic topics (Business Management and Economics) in both, educational and business context.

Our training is mainly focused on teaching in Austrian secondary schools. As the training also provides professional knowledge of business management, the training also enables our graduates to find positions in many other business fields (e.g. personnel development, consultancy).

The career opportunities for Business Education graduates include:

  • Professional full-time schools (e.g.: Colleges of Business Administration)
  • Human Resources Department in companies
  • Continuing education in public and private organisations
  • Educational management and educational policy
  • Consultancy

This broad portfolio of skills is the reason for the excellent job opportunities, the Business Education graduates had in the last decades and although the current job market situation is challenging, our graduates still have outstanding career prospects compared to other courses.

The Institute for Business Education is interdisciplinarily orientated and therefore combines economics, teaching methodologies and psychological aspects. This orientation is documented within all three central aspects of the institute: Research, teachers training and further education.

In our institute teaching has a higher value in comparison to other “normal” Business Management departments. It is not only a challenge for university didactic methods but also provides an interesting field for research.

Students are intended to acquire scientific knowledge, which partly includes the curriculum of professional- and business education, and to connect this with professional practical basics, whereby the last is operationalised by standards.

One of our main objectives is to establish a good working relationship with our students, by communicating clear and transparent performance expectations.
