Our approach to training PhDs

The WGI Institute engages a number of PhDs in its research activities. We attempt to operate on an "apprenticeship model" with all PhDs working alongside a more senior researcher. Our PhD candidates are expected to develop their own portfolio of research with advice and guidance provided formally through a mentoring process as well as informally through contacts with our strategic partner institution, the Department of Foresight & Policy, Austrian Institute of Technology.

All PhDs are encouraged to submit papers at international conferences, and feedback is provided before the paper is submitted.

We run a weekly academic seminar with presentations from faculty, PhDs and visiting fellows. We view this as an important part of our training and development for PhDs. It gives them exposure to leading research as well as helping them to understand how to challenge research findings.

Ph.D. candidates interested in research in the field of Innovation Economics may apply for a scholarship [see our Innovation Economics Vienna Programme for more details]
