Leave of Absence

Admissible grounds for a leave of absence

Pursuant to § 29 of the By Laws of the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business, students may apply for a leave of absence (application is in German) of up to two semesters at a time under the following conditions:

1. Compulsory military service or community service in Austria (please present conscription notification),
2. Pregnancy (please present your Mutter-Kind-Pass, the booklet provided to all pregnant women in Austria documenting the required medical checkups)
3. Child care commitment for your own children (please present the child's/children's birth certificate and registration confirmation [Meldezettel] for you and the child/children),
4. Semester abroad as a free mover (please present confirmation from the foreign university),
5. Extended illness (Medical confirmation form).

Deadline for application

The application and approval process must be completed at least at the end of the extended enrollment period of the first semester of leave (calendar).

Application

Applications can be submitted to the Admissions Office (ground floor, section D), together with the required documentation of the grounds for a leave of absence. Your application must include the following information: Student ID number (Matrikelnummer), last name, first name, and the semester(s) to which the leave of absence applies.

Enrollment status during a leave of absence

During a leave of absence, you remain enrolled, and your status is set to "leave of absence". Your curriculum still applies.

You may not participate in classes, take exams or submit or have evaluated scientific papers (§ 67(2) Universities Act)

Tuition fees during a leave of absence

The student association fee (including the special ÖH fee) of € 17.00 must still be paid, as you continue to be a member of the Austrian National Union of Students.
The tuition fees of € 363.72 are waived during your leave period.
