Research

Vienna University of Economics and Business has an impressive track record in research, and I am pleased to introduce you to our Research Institutes as well as to our faculty’s other key specializations which bear equally vivid testimony to the richness and diversity of our research activities.

Unlike some narrowly focused business schools, WU boasts a broad range of disciplines, including not only business and economics, but also formal sciences, law, social sciences and humanities.

We are thus able to aim for both diversity and depth without compromising either: clearly a fortunate position to be in at a time when universities are facing increasing challenges both at home and internationally.

Our research strategy is geared towards building structures that facilitate the cross-fertilization of ideas, be it through interdepartmental cooperation, international linkages, or joint projects with corporate partners. Interdisciplinary teamwork is the driving force behind the coalescence of our research efforts into Research Institutes, a strategic move which has fostered many improvements, including a reduction in research overlaps and a clearer focus in the allocation of funds.

However, streamlining has not stifled individual researchers’ creativity; on the contrary, experience has taught us that individual excellence flourishes most when there are close-knit networks offering support. Needless to say, our programs are backed up by review procedures ensuring quality control. The result is first-rate research that has gained considerable international recognition.

I invite you to look through these pages, see what we have to offer, and get in touch with WU faculty sharing your own research interests. We would be delighted to hear from you.
