The doctoral program of WU is a demanding program of high quality, which develops the students‘ ability to do independent research and meet the challenges of an academic career. In the course of the program, students undertake theoretical or practical social and/or economic research. They are familiarised with philosophy of science, theories of the field/paradigms, data resources, methods of research, inquiry and evaluation as well as publication strategies, and receive a research orientated education.

From the 1st of October 2012 onwards, you can register for the the Research Seminars 5 und 6 ("Theories of the field" and "Relevant Theories for the dissertation and Literature review") only after you have passed the examination "Research Proposal". Please submit your Research Proposal early (in the 4th semester at the latest) if you want to complete your studies in the stipulated time.
