The University Board confirmed WU Rector Christoph Badelt (59) in office during yesterday’s Board meeting and re-elected him to represent WU as Rector for the coming legislative period from October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2015. Both motions were unanimously approved by the Board.
Christoph Badelt, Professor of Economic and Social Policy, will remain at the head of Europe’s largest business and economics university for a further period until 2015. Badelt has been WU Rector since 2002, and guided WU through the transition to autonomy after the implementation of the Universities Act in 2002.
Internationalization and profile development
During his last period in office, Christoph Badelt, voted Austria’s Scientist of the Year in 1999, dedicated himself to raising the level of internationalization and sharpening WU’s profile as a brand, increasing research output and the continuous improvement of teaching quality – all areas he plans to continue to focus on in the coming period.
Commitment to Austrian educational policy
As a representative of WU, Christoph Badelt has worked tirelessly and with great commitment and passion for an improvement of the Austrian education system and its financial support. From 2005-2009, he pursued these goals as President of Universities Austria (uniko). He is also Vice-President of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO).
