Business School Ranking: WU up 7 places WU already achieved sensational results in the Financial Times rankings ‘Masters in Management’ (placing 16th out of 50 programs) and ‘Executive MBA’ (taking 41st place out of 95 ranked programs worldwide) released in October. Now, in the most recent FT ranking of European Business Schools, WU has another success to celebrate, moving up seven slots to an excellent 34th place out of 70 top European business universities. Only six universities in the German-speaking world qualified for the ranking; of these, WU took 4th place. |

WU homepage has a new look
WU introduced its new logo and corporate design in May of this year. Now, in a further step, the WU website has been re-launched in WU’s new look, and is now more up-to-date, convenient to use, and more easily searchable. Increasing user-friendliness and internationalization were two main objectives. |

WU Research Institute to develop EU monitoring system The Research Institute for Managing Sustainability at WU has won a Europe–wide competition held by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research: In 2010, the team will be developing a monitoring system to analyze the contribution of the Seventh Framework Programme on European sustainability objectives, such as climate protection, mobility or health. The results will be freely accessible, in part to increase the transparency of the awarding of EU grants. |

Financial Times Ranking “Masters in Management 2009”: WU on top of the group Financial Times (FT) publishes an annual ranking of the best degree programs and universities in the field of business and economics. In this year’s “Masters of Management” ranking, WU reached its best place ever since its first ranking in 2005. With its degree program in International Business Administration, WU was able to improve its position by moving up to a sensational 16th place. This puts WU in the same league as schools like the Rotterdam School of Management, Barcelona’s ESADE, or the Stockholm School of Economics. CEMS (The Global Alliance in Management Education) was ranked number one for the first time this year. This is particularly good news for WU, as the elite, top-ranked European CEMS MIM degree program is available in Austria exclusively at WU. |

From INSEAD to WU – Günter K. Stahl comes to WU as new Professor for
International Marketing & Management
The new policy
in place at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) to increase
international recruiting is showing visible results: Since December 1, 2008,
Günter K. Stahl is the new WU Professor for International Marketing &
Management (IMM) at the Institute of the same name. Before coming to Vienna,
Stahl was Associate Professor for Management at the Paris business school
INSEAD, where he was involved in setting up the Asia Campus in Singapore. At
WU, his activities will include teaching Cross-Cultural Management and Managing
Globalization in the new master’s program in International Management/CEMS.

Financial Times Ranking of “Masters
in Management 2008”: WU’s Master Program in International Business ranks among
the top 20 internationally
The Financial Times (FT)
regularly publishes rankings of management programs and business schools. The
most recent ranking, “Masters in Management 2008”, has just been released: The
Master in International Management Program of the Vienna University of
Economics and Business (in German Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien or WU) came 18
out of 50 programs putting it in the same category as the Rotterdam School of
Management, Mannheim Business School or Barcelona’s ESADE. |

Presenting WU’s top European academic program: CEMS Day 2008 to take place on January 15
The Financial Times has ranked it second among Europe’s
best Master’s programs, its students speak three foreign languages and spend
half of their academic year abroad. Its over 17 partner universities include
renowned institutions such as the London School of Economics (LSE), the HEC in
Paris and the University of St.Gallen
(HSG), and major multinational banks, energy companies and consulting firms are
numbered among its over 50 corporate partners. The CEMS-MIM (Master in
International Management) from CEMS (Community of European Management Schools),
is an internationally-oriented WU program for future top management executives. |

Call for
entries released for the architecture competition for the new Vienna University of Economics and Business
Administration campus The
architecture competition for the planning of the new Vienna University of Economics and Business
Administration campus was officially opened on December
10, 2007
with a Europe-wide call for entries. Architects
are invited to submit plans for the realization of a new University complex in
its future location south of the Vienna exhibition grounds. The jury,
headed by Wolf D. Prix and Dietmar Eberle, is expected to reach
a decision by April of next year. |

to relocate in 2012
Vienna

relocating all its departments to
one unified campus next to the exhibition grounds in Vienna's 2nd district. This
resolution, based on a proposal made by the Rector's Council, was

WU is the first Austrian University to be awarded the prestigious
international EQUIS accreditation. With this, WU is officially one of only
four accredited business universities in the German-speaking world (Universität Mannheim,
WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management, Universität St. Gallen), and is the
largest public university in the European Union to be accredited by EQUIS. EQUIS
(European Quality Improvement System) is an internationally recognised
accreditation system offered by the European Foundation of Management (EFMD).
110 universities from 32 countries have been accredited so far. |
