1. Which requirements do I have to meet before starting my IMM Specialization?
You have to successfully complete the following courses/exams:

  • all the exams/courses in business administration from the introductory year
  • Business in the legal context – European and Public Business Law I
  • Business in the legal context – Private Business Law I
  • Fundamentals of Economics I and II
  • Mathematics and Statistics

2. Is there an entry test? What is it about and when does it take place?

Yes, there is an entry test. It is usually held at the beginning of a term. Further information about the entrance exam will soon be published  here.

3. Do I have to register for the entry test?

Yes. Registering for your first course via the LPIS system will automatically sign you up for the entry test.


4. Which courses can I choose as electives?
You can choose all the courses that are marked as electives. Please have a look at our course list.


5. Can I do the courses “foundations” and “application” and the two electives in the same term?

Yes, you can. You can do both electives in your first term or in your second term. Another possibility is to do one in the first and the other one in the second term.


6. What is the virtual seminar?

The Virtual Seminar is the final seminar of your IMM Specialization, in which you will have to apply your IMM knowledge to an international, real-life context. You will work together with your colleagues who are doing their term abroad. You will learn to use software that enables video conferencing and virtual classes with your instructor, make use of the learn@wu platform and efficiently communicate via email, etc. The major goal is to prepare you for work in an international environment and to familiarize you with various communication tools.


7. Are the electives a prerequisite for attending the virtual seminar?

No, they are not. You can do them whenever you want to. The only prerequisite for the Virtual Seminar is the successful completion of the Foundations and Applications courses.


8. Can I do the virtual seminar and the two electives in the same term?

Yes, you can. You can do both electives in your first term or in your second term. Another possibility is to do one in the first and the other one in the second term.


9. Can I do the courses “foundations” and “applications” and the virtual seminar in the same term?

No, that is not possible. In order to participate in the Virtual Seminar, you need to have successfully completed the courses Foundations and Applications.


10. Which courses can I do while I am studying abroad?

You can do all your electives at another university as long as they are related to international marketing and management issues. You can also attend the Virtual Seminar during your exchange semester. The only courses that have to be done at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU) are the first two courses, Foundations and Applications. No credit transfer is possible for these two courses.


11. Which requirements do I have to meet to write my Bachelor's thesis at IMM?

First, you have to be an IMM student. Second, you have to write your bachelor’s thesis within the framework of an IMM course. Third, you have to pass our course on academic writing, which deals with case study writing.


12. Do I have to attend a specific course "Grundlagen wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens"?

Yes, you have to attend the course "Grundlagen wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens" which is offered by IMM (see course list).

13. What shall I do when the course I wanted to attend is full?

If you can`t register for a course on the LPIS anymore, you can come to our office and put yourselfselves on the waiting list for that particular course. In case someone deregisters for that course, students from the waiting list will be informed and asked if they are still interested in attending this course.
