Over the past decades, internationalization and changes in traditional social structures and gender roles have increased the amount of attention paid to gender relations and other aspects of human diversity, on a global scale. Factors of diversity such as gender, ethnicity, class, religion, age, education, sexual orientation and alternative ways of life are top issues on the academic and professional agenda, especially in the context of the inequality and discrimination often connected to these aspects of diversity, which influence social, cultural, political and economic processes and structures.
The establishment of the "Gender and Diversity Management Group" at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) was an innovative step in research and higher education. WU thus serves as an example to other European countries and joins the ranks of the most prestigious universities, which are increasingly establishing research facilities on gender and diversity.
