Quality management in teaching

Since 2005, all of WU’s academic quality assurance activities have been based on a common concept and linked to each other as part of a quality management system. WU’s quality assurance and development strategies are part of a comprehensive culture of quality:

Feedback, communication and reflection are the principles used to strengthen the awareness of and efforts towards high-quality teaching at WU. A “fitness for purpose” approach is applied, using a variety of different methods, procedures, programs and projects to reach the respective quality goals.

Quality Culture

The system is based on three closely related principles:

  • Quality analysis, e.g. in course and program evaluations, program and graduate analyses or Academic Evaluation
  • Quality development, e.g. as part of student and teacher support programs, teaching awards or further education opportunities
  • Quality dialog, e.g. during both institutional and informal forms of exchange such as round table discussions, Academic Director talks or resource pools

The idea behind the culture of quality is to encourage people to develop custom-made quality objectives for the areas they are involved in and can influence. This means that a large number of participants (management personnel, faculty and staff, students, graduates, corporate partners, etc.) are involved in the development of WU’s culture of quality.
